TRUSTING GOD IN THE EYE OF THE STORM

Have you ever been faced with a situation that got you wondering if you were sure you heard God speak? I have.

During this period, you feel downcast and forsaken. It seems time is closing in on you, and the worst of it is that you find it difficult to pray!

At the beginning of 2022, my husband and I fixed a date for our wedding. We kept on believing in God while the date was still afar off, but the moment it was a few weeks before the wedding, panic took over. We couldn’t turn to family members for help because we had boasted to them about our trust in God. I lacked what to say to God in prayers. God told my husband we wouldn’t be put to shame and that was the thin thread we had to hold on to. It was at this moment we truly understood the meaning of trust in God.

By definition, trust means firm belief in the reliability, truth or ability of someone or something. In the context of this article, storms mean challenges, problems, and difficulties.

Thus, trusting God in the eye of the storm means firm belief in the reliability, truth or ability of God in the midst of challenges. Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding”. Hebrews 11:1 (MSB)  also says The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see.

The basis of the Christian life is all about faith which is also trust without wavering. When you trust in God, you do it from your heart. Even if your mind doubts ( as there would be times when your mind would tell you that you are being irrational), don’t let it get to your heart. Once you do not stagger in trusting God, He will perform that which He promised.

In order to convince you that you can put your trust in God, I will highlight examples of some people who trusted in God and came out with testimonies. In scriptures, we have an endless list of people who trusted God in impossible situations and God came through for them. Here are a few examples:

1.Daniel: In the book of Daniel chapter 6, the rulers in the kingdom of Babylon were jealous of Daniel so they framed him up. They made King Darius sign a decree forbidding them from praying to any other God but him with consequences attached to whoever defaulted. Not minding the consequence, Daniel went on to pray, even more than he ever did before. He was arrested and thrown into the lion’s den, yet he believed God would bring him out unhurt. At the end of the day, he came out alive without a scratch.

2.Abraham: He is not called the father of faith for nothing. According to Romans 4:16-23, he believed he would have the son which God promised him even at old age and this was credited unto him for righteousness.

These and many more men and women trusted God in Bible days and also in our contemporary days and God made them pull through.

One striking thing you should know is that God is in the midst of the storm with you. He promised not to leave or forsake you. Do you remember the incident on the stormy sea with Jesus and His disciples? The disciples were afraid of drowning, forgetting that since Jesus was in the ship they couldn’t sink. Immediately Jesus woke up and spoke to the great storm of wind, there was peace and calm.

I am excited to be writing on this topic because I have had a first-hand experience and I can tell you emphatically that God doesn’t fail. Don’t forget our story which I shared at the beginning of this article. We continued to trust God all through that period, and he came through for us. At the end of the day, Psalms 34:5 was our testimony. In a nutshell, always remember this: with Jesus in your ship, you can sail through any storm.
